WHAT DO WE DO?

In the event of a collapse from Cardiac Arrest, Choking, Drowning or unexplained causes , the recommended response time for an emergency callout by an ambulance is 8 minutes – THE GOLDEN TIME – the time in which a patient , if successfully treated, stands the greatest chance of survival and recovery.

Due to our rural location and distance from the nearest ambulance station (Carlisle) it is not possible for the Paramedics to guarantee that this target can be met.

First Responders are trained by the Ambulance Paramedics in basic life support including CPR ( Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation)  and the use of an AED ( Automatic External Defibrillator ). In the event of an ambulance emergency callout to one of the above causes the First Response Team is also called via pagers. Some responders may go directly to the patient whilst others collect the AED. In this way the patient obtains vital assistance as quickly as possible and in advance of the ambulance arriving. The team then hands over to the Paramedics.
